What are the major subcategories of Bipolar Disorder?

Understanding the course of bipolar disorders is important for the management of the disease. Episodes of depression and mania happen again across the life span. The majority of people do not experience any symptoms between the episodes. However despite the treatment; almost one third of people may have certain residual symptoms and a small percentage of people may struggle with chronic unremitting symptoms.

Bipolar II Disorder

The form of the disease where people do not develop severe mania but experience milder episodes of hypomania that change with depression.

This is the course of the disease where 4 or more episodes of illness arise within one year.
